What is true - what you know - my family - upbringing - me, who i am - how i see the world and human interaction - culture - personal culture - family culture -

1.a. One or two sentence project description.

I want to create a visual project based on who I am because of my family.  The points that I reflect upon will be the fuel for the messages I will portray in greeting cards, postcards, and prints. The way that I think I will discover how my upbringing has manifested itself in who I am will be through a graphic novel. Sections or pages of the graphic novel or prints will inspire insightful phrases that will be turned into a greeting card or postcard.

b. What is your idea to be explored, problem to be solved, interest to be investigated?

The ideas to be explored have stemmed from my initial interest in universal language, communication, and authentically communicating emotion.I have arrived on the topic of my family as the inspiration for my work and research. I want to explore the lessons I have learned through my family as inspiration for my work. I will investigate how using certain typographic and illustrated styles can help to portray a message effectively.

(feedback from workshop notes---Book of visual proverbs, Incidents, Narrow the focus of the product, Much more important to make one cohesive piece that a line of things)

c. Why is this project worth doing?

I think it is so interesting when you meet the family of someone you know, and suddenly you understand who they are so much better. The project is worth doing because everyone is a product of their upbringing and I want to synthesize who I am through this process, while at the same time pursuing a craft that I enjoy and will further my ability as a designer and artist.

d. How are you planning to realize this idea?

I can work in my studio or in the print studio. I do not know whether I will make prints in the print studio, make screens, or serigraphs. Regardless, I think I will work first by hand and on the computer and either print from the computer or convert the work I made on my computer into a different process. I probably should apply for a grant to help with supplies. I also would need help learning how to execute a serigraph.  If I decided to go the route of a graphic novel I would need some guidance.
