Midterm Integrative Project Proposal
Section 001
October 8 Draft
1.
a. One or two sentence project description.
I want to create a project based on what my mother has given, taught and done for me.
b. What is your idea to be explored, problem to be solved, interest to be investigated?
The ideas to be explored have stemmed from my initial interest in universal language, communication, and authentically communicating emotions which are a part of universal language. I have arrived on the topic of my mother as the inspiration for my work and research. Based on the fact that she is the most important person in the whole world to me, (besides my father, who is right there with her to be fair, but in the paternal way) and she has taught me some of the most important lessons I’ve learned in life. I want what she has done for me to be the content of visual communication projects. I am choosing my mother rather than my father because of the role that the woman plays in the family as a universally important function of society. I am also choosing the female because I am female, and hope to someday play the role my mother played.
My project is about my mother. I will create print materials based on who she is, her as a mother, and our relationship. The possible forms the project will take are posters, cards, postcards or a graphic novel or a combination of all of the options.
c. Why is this project worth doing?
A universal fact of life is that everyone has a mother in some form or another. The role of the woman as the glue that holds a family together, and the fact that I simply care about my mother are top reasons why I should do this project. She has given me and my family everything a mother could give, and I want her to realize how fundamentally important that is. When she decided to be a mother at age 24 she gave up pursuing further education, being free in her twenties, traveling, a career and many other things. I want to exhibit that though she gave these things up, the role that she plays as a mother and wife to my father is exponentially important to society regardless of the things she may have missed.
d. How are you planning to realize this idea?
I can work in my studio or in the print studio. I do not know whether I will make prints in the print studio, make screens, or serigraphs. Regardless, I think I will work first by hand and on the computer and either print from the computer or convert the work I made on my computer into a different process. I probably should apply for a grant to help with supplies. I also would need help learning how to execute a serigraph. If I decided to go the route of a graphic novel I would need some guidance.
e. Where might you realize this?
I see this being exhibited in a gallery space.
